London, UK – Global Infrastructure Advisors (GIA)

Marking a significant stride in Senegal’s energy landscape, West African Energy SA (WAE) achieves a major feat with the successful development and financing of its flagship Cap des Biches 300MW gas combined cycle power plant. GIA, a leading infrastructure advisory firm, helped guide WAE through this landmark project.

Situated in Senegal, the Cap de Biches project is poised to become one of West Africa’s largest power plants. The plant aims to address the region’s escalating energy demands. Leveraging GE’s advanced gas turbine technology, the plant promises efficient and reliable power supply to the grid.

GIA provided project development and financial advisory services, covering crucial aspects such as project structuring, financing, and tariff determination. This success stands as a testament to WAE’s commitment to delivering impactful infrastructure projects that align with local economic development.

“We are proud to have advised WAE on this landmark project, which will have a significant impact on the energy landscape in West Africa. This is a testament to the expertise and dedication of our team, who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the project. We look forward to continuing our partnership with WAE and supporting their future growth and success.”

Simon Marchioni, Managing Partner

With construction well underway, the Cap des Biches project targets commercial operations by late 2024. Once operational, it will provide reliable and affordable power, contributing significantly to Senegal’s economic development.

Senegal’s energy landscape is changing. The Just Energy Transition Partnership agreement signed in June 2022 and President Macky Sall’s recent government reshuffle, which included the appointment of a new oil and energy minister, highlights the country’s strategic focus on making energy production both sustainable and reliable. With large offshore fields expected to commence production next year, Senegal is poised for an economic transformation in the coming decades.
